Remote Sensing Pioneer Jim Taranik Passes Away
News came last week of the passing of Jim Taranik, a pioneer in remote sensing applications in both SAR and spectral data processing. Jim worked as a principal scientist at the EROS Data Center from 1975-1978 before moving on to NASA and the University of Nevada, Reno. Jim preceded me at the data center but his reputation was widely known and his publications were referenced many times during the early days of using Landsat data technology in particular in geological remote sensing.
